Role Purpose

The Survey Manager for Transmission Projects is accountable for planning and delivering land and route surveys for transmission-line work. The position ensures survey data is accurate, timely, compliant with regulatory and environmental requirements, and useful for project planning and execution. The role covers topographical surveys, right-of-way reviews, and geotechnical studies, using modern survey methods and GIS tools to improve precision, reduce route risks, and support land acquisition and approvals for efficient project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

This role includes coordinating and supervising all survey activities related to transmission projects, from route alignment and profiling to tower spotting. It also involves selecting suitable methods such as Total Station, GPS, and LiDAR to improve measurement quality and feasibility.

The position requires identifying route constraints, analyzing feasibility, and recommending alternate solutions to reduce project risk. It also calls for strict compliance with IS Codes, CBIP manuals, and statutory survey rules, along with securing required clearances and verifying land records for approval processes.

Quality control is a major part of the job, including verification surveys and cross-checking GIS and topographical information to improve reliability. The role also involves working closely with local authorities, landowners, and regulators to support land acquisition and ROW approvals while minimizing delays and disputes.

In addition, the Survey Manager will coordinate with project, engineering, and execution teams by sharing precise survey inputs, resolving technical mismatches, and helping optimize designs. The role includes supervising survey agencies and contractors to ensure work follows agreed specifications.

The position also encourages the use of newer technologies such as drone surveys, GIS mapping, and 3D terrain models, as well as digital and automated workflows for better efficiency. Other duties include spotting encroachments, environmental limitations, and acquisition issues early, resolving gaps between survey reports and site conditions, maintaining detailed geospatial and ownership records, producing analytical reports, and guiding the survey team through training, mentoring, and safety and quality practices.

Required Experience

Candidates should have 8 to 12 years of experience in survey planning and execution for transmission lines, infrastructure projects, or large-scale land surveys.

Educational Qualification

A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Surveying, Geography, or a closely related discipline is required.
