Role Overview
The Technical Project Manager will lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of complex technology initiatives within NUVEEN’s product and technology function. This role acts as the key link between business priorities and technical execution, bringing together product managers, product owners, engineering managers, software engineers, and QA teams to deliver solutions that create business value.
The position calls for a professional who combines strong technical understanding with solid project leadership, able to work across multiple concurrent initiatives, support agile delivery, and keep communication flowing smoothly between technical and business stakeholders. The role also demands the ability to discuss technical matters with engineering teams while explaining business impact clearly to senior leaders, all while keeping projects disciplined and continuously improving.
Project Planning and Delivery
- Define project scope, objectives, success measures, and deliverables that align with business strategy and technical needs.
- Create detailed plans covering work breakdown, timelines, staffing, budget estimates, and interdependencies.
- Set up project governance with decision authority, escalation routes, and approval checkpoints.
- Build realistic schedules that factor in complexity, resource availability, and risk.
- Monitor milestones, deliverables, and quality checkpoints throughout execution.
- Coordinate progress across multiple workstreams and technical teams.
- Measure delivery performance against the baseline using earned value and agile indicators.
- Run regular review meetings with project teams and stakeholders.
- Spot schedule delays, cost overruns, or scope changes early and apply corrective action.
- Manage changes through formal change-control processes.
- Support smooth phase transitions and readiness for production release.

Technical Coordination and Leadership

- Coordinate integrations across systems, APIs, and microservices.
- Track technical dependencies across teams and ensure they are properly documented.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams on CI/CD, deployment strategy, and infrastructure setup.
- Understand cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, and GCP and their impact on timelines.
- Partner with business analysts and product owners to convert business needs into detailed technical specifications.
- Ensure requirements are complete, testable, and traceable through delivery.
- Support feasibility analysis and proof-of-concept planning when needed.
- Maintain a traceability matrix connecting business needs to technical outputs.
- Handle technical debt discussions and help prioritize them with engineering teams.
- Coordinate API design, data model definitions, and integration specifications.
- Act as the main point of contact between product and engineering teams.
- Remove blockers and impediments that slow development.
- Help resolve technical disagreements and conflicting priorities.
- Translate complex technical details into business language for non-technical stakeholders.
- Ensure teams have clear priorities, requirements, and success criteria.

- Work with engineering managers on capacity planning, resource allocation, and team velocity.
- Coordinate with QA leadership on test strategy, automation, and quality reporting.
- Engage architecture, security, compliance, and infrastructure teams on governance needs.
- Collaborate with release management on deployment planning and production readiness.
- Prepare executive-level status reports with red, yellow, and green health indicators plus trend analysis.
- Present progress, risks, and decision points to senior leadership.
- Explain technical topics in terms of business impact for executive audiences.
- Support steering committee meetings and governance reviews.
- Handle escalations with context and recommended next steps.
- Build trust through transparency, data-driven updates, and proactive communication.
- Assess stakeholders by interest, influence, and communication preferences.
- Create engagement plans with tailored communication approaches.
- Manage expectations around scope and negotiate tradeoffs when required.
- Navigate organizational politics carefully while resolving competing priorities.
- Build consensus across stakeholders with differing interests.
- Recognize team contributions and celebrate wins to strengthen relationships.
