Role Overview
This role involves installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining telecommunications systems within commercial or industrial facilities. Areas of responsibility include structured cabling, data and telecom networks, Wi-Fi access points, VoIP systems, CCTV network components, troubleshooting connectivity, and ensuring compliance with safety and cabling standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and configure structured cabling systems (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A) and perform fiber termination and patching.
- Manage data and telecom networks including building switching and routing components.
- Set up and maintain Wi-Fi access points with relevant controllers.
- Support VoIP systems such as PBX/IP phones including SIP trunk trouble resolution.
- Handle CCTV/IP network components if they fall under telecom responsibilities.
- Troubleshoot connectivity problems involving WAN/LAN, in-building networks, Wi-Fi coverage, and audio/call quality issues.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections of telecom infrastructure such as rooms, cabinets, and cabling pathways.
- Maintain inventory of spare parts and document service and repair activities for telecom equipment.
- Collaborate with ISPs and other service providers for activation, modifications, and escalation procedures.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation exists including as-built drawings, labeling standards, cable maps, configuration backups, change logs, service reports, checklists, and maintenance records.
- Comply with safety, fire/life-safety, and cabling standards applicable to company, landlord, or client requirements.
- Assist in telecom capacity enhancement efforts like adding access points, upgrading switches, or expanding patch panels and fiber infrastructure.
- Support audit processes and maintain adherence to internal service-level agreements and response requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Networking, Electrical Engineering, or similar disciplines, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of two years' experience in supporting telecom networks and cabling within commercial or industrial settings.
- Practical knowledge of structured cabling installation and testing tools.
- Understanding of IP network fundamentals including VLANs, DHCP, DNS, and basic routing.
- Skills in Wi-Fi troubleshooting, particularly related to coverage and channel management.
- Ability to comprehend and utilize technical drawings and adhere to structured work instructions.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with VoIP/PBX systems and SIP trunk troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with network performance monitoring and testing tools.
- Experience working with network equipment from vendors like Cisco, Meraki, Ubiquiti, Fortinet, Ruckus, or Huawei.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, Network+, or vendor-specific Wi-Fi and cabling credentials.
