Assistant Manager - Engineering

Overview

The Assistant Manager - Engineering supports the leadership and management of engineering and maintenance operations for the facility, ensuring upkeep of the building, grounds, and physical systems with a strong emphasis on safety, security, and protection of assets. This role plays a key part in budget management, capital projects, preventive maintenance schedules, and energy-saving initiatives, while also ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. Additionally, this position acts as a leader on the emergency response team for facility-related incidents.

Key Responsibilities

• Support management of the physical plant encompassing equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems.
• Ensure adherence to all facility regulations and safety protocols.
• Contribute to monitoring and control of heating, lighting, and power systems, recommending energy-conservation best practices.
• Assist in drafting specifications for service contracts and administer these contracts to meet building requirements.
• Manage distribution of preventive maintenance and repair work orders, tracking timely and quality completion.
• Oversee maintenance for property grounds, guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, vehicles, and recreational facilities.
• Help develop and execute long-term preventive maintenance and asset protection plans.
• Participate in project planning for renovations or new construction, coordinating bids and contractor activities to meet schedules and budgets.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders such as building authorities, fire prevention bureaus, and vendors.
• Ensure fire safety teams are thoroughly trained on procedures, equipment, and alarm systems.
• Conduct regular property, guest room, and common area inspections to assure high standards and guest satisfaction.
• Assess facility conditions to determine required maintenance and recommend additional services like painting, repairs, renovations, or replacement of furnishings.
• Manage purchasing for new equipment, supplies, and furnishings, and maintain parts and equipment inventory.
• Keep building licenses and equipment certifications up to date.
• Maintain property life safety systems including fire fighting equipment, sprinkler, and alarm systems.
• Lead by example in delivering exceptional guest service and fostering a positive customer relations environment.
• Set clear employee guidelines and expectations to promote performance standards.
• Analyze guest feedback and other data to identify improvement areas and share plans with leadership to enhance satisfaction.
• Drive initiatives to continuously improve service quality.

Candidate Profile

• High school diploma or GED with at least 2 years of experience in engineering, maintenance, or related technical area with technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing; OR
• A 2-year degree from an accredited institution in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related discipline with no prior experience required.
