Associate Medical Editor - Remote

About the Role

The Associate Medical Editor is a licensed oncology registered nurse, ideally holding a master’s degree and oncology certification, responsible for developing and maintaining accurate, evidence-based cancer information tailored for different literacy levels and audiences, covering prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and end-of-life care. This remote position supports the organization's reputation by ensuring content is precise, current, and actionable.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, update, review, and edit cancer information to ensure it aligns with the latest evidence, ACS guidelines, and mission standards (75%).
• Enhance the readability of medical content by applying adult learning principles, health equity, and health literacy best practices (5%).
• Manage print-based patient education projects using data-driven reports, coordinating with inventory teams and external vendors (5%).
• Safeguard editorial standards by ensuring consistency with accessibility requirements, ACS policies, messaging, and guidelines (5%).
• Provide support for cancer-related inquiries escalated from helplines and customer experience teams (5%).
• Act as a clinical consultant and resource for mission-driven initiatives, partnerships, special projects, and content reviews (5%).

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in nursing is required; a Master’s degree in nursing is preferred.
• Active, unrestricted RN license is mandatory.
• Oncology certification such as OCN or AOCN (or eligibility) strongly preferred.
• At least five years of clinical oncology nursing experience.

Knowledge and Skills

• Comprehensive understanding of clinical oncology including risk, prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and end-of-life issues.
• Clinical experience with cancer treatments, patient education, and managing side effects across the care continuum, with knowledge of emerging therapies and standards.
• Familiarity with current oncology trends, health policies, and public health initiatives.
• Proficiency in literature searches and integrating findings into content development and reviews.
• Ability to produce original patient education materials that simplify complex medical information using best practices in health literacy, adult learning, and consideration of special populations.
• Working knowledge of AMA style and referencing standards.
• Awareness of the impact of artificial intelligence and search engine optimization on content.
• Strong attention to detail, project management, and adherence to organizational standards and timelines.
• Self-driven, organized, creative, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent collaboration and professional communication skills across disciplines and with external partners.

Additional Information

• Occasional travel may be necessary for team meetings, conferences, or training sessions supporting organizational goals.
• The role is primarily office-based but fully remote work is allowed within the U.S.
• Minimal physical effort and exposure to risk are required.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary range is $85,000 to $90,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, specialty, education, and geographic location.
