Role Purpose
This position is responsible for planning and ensuring reliable, efficient maintenance of the Switchyard and Power Transformer areas. It involves strategic planning, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards, managing resources effectively, and driving operational excellence to support the organization's long-term sustainability goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise electrical maintenance teams focusing on switchyard and transformer equipment.
- Contribute to strategic and tactical planning for the maintenance of 220 KV/400 KV Switchyards and power transformers up to 400 MVA capacity.
- Plan and execute preventive maintenance (PM), routine maintenance (RM), condition-based maintenance (CBM), and breakdown maintenance tasks.
- Coordinate annual overhaul maintenance activities and schedule outages efficiently.
- Interface and collaborate with various departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Implement and enforce safety procedures aiming for zero accidents.
- Oversee contractor activities to ensure quality and timely completion of work.
- Maintain detailed maintenance histories, records, and drawings.
- Review, update, and implement safe maintenance procedures (SMPs), job safety analyses (JSAs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) within budget limits.
- Drive improvement projects by adopting new technologies in switchyard and transformer areas.
- Conduct testing of electrical equipment for safety and reliability assurance.
- Monitor and ensure timely closure of maintenance notifications through SAP systems.
- Manage spare parts inventory including development of key indigenous spares like radiators, bushings, CTs, circuit breakers, isolators, relays, and more.
- Plan and expedite repair and refurbishment activities for associated electrical equipment.
- Approve purchase requests and coordinate procurement processes with the techno-commercial team to ensure efficient contract management.
- Prepare service entry sheets (SES) and track payment cycles for completed services.
- Ensure adherence to Integrated Management System (IMS), AWMS, DISHA, ABEM, and CHETNA safety guidelines.
- Develop mitigation strategies for hazardous processes and oversee participation in safety drills.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) to prevent recurrence of issues and implement avoidance strategies.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and statutory requirements including electrical license renewals and certifications.
- Liaise with government and regulatory bodies such as SLDC, WRLDC, ALDC, NRLDC for regulatory compliance and scheduled outages.
- Perform technical audits and assessments following ISO, IWMS, 5S standards to uphold operational excellence.
- Lead digitalization and automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency and embrace new technologies.
- Support recruitment and employee engagement efforts to maintain a skilled and motivated team.
- Provide mentorship, foster team collaboration, encourage cross-skilling, and promote a positive workplace culture to enhance retention.
- Coordinate manpower planning and maintain effective communications both within the team and with business associates.
Internal and External Stakeholders
- Internal: All departments, head office, service departments, techno-commercial unit.
- External: Government agencies, vendors, contractors providing materials and services.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Over 15 years of experience in electrical maintenance, particularly in the power distribution sector.
- Experience in power generation, transmission, or distribution sectors, with expertise in switchyard operations and upkeep.
