Role Overview

At Crate and Barrel, Designers play a vital role in inspiring customers by showcasing contemporary home design trends and assisting with everything from full home furnishings to individual accent pieces. This position focuses on leveraging design expertise and digital tools to craft personalized solutions through both in-store and in-home consultations, while driving sales and fostering customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage customers with meaningful interactions to promote sales and elevate the design experience across in-store, virtual, and in-home settings.
• Create comprehensive design packages including moodboards, 2D and 3D floor plans, product lists, and customer presentations utilizing preferred design software.
• Lead design consultations through various communication modes (in-person, phone, email, virtual) while ensuring timely project delivery.
• Understand and uphold brand aesthetics and merchandising strategies relevant to different sales channels.
• Stay informed about all product details and industry trends for well-informed customer guidance.
• Meet individual sales, key performance indicators, and service goals, actively engaging with customers on the sales floor to demonstrate product knowledge and sales skills.
• Identify customer needs through attentive listening and promote loyalty services such as designer rewards and credit programs.
• Contribute to a positive customer experience with enthusiasm, quick and courteous service, and support in-store training on design services.
• Network and build lasting customer relationships via clienteling strategies.
• Apply basic design principles such as spatial planning, fabric selection, lighting, and interior design styles to customer projects.
• Maintain excellent communication skills to effectively interpret brand vision and customer requirements.
• Utilize technology proficiently, including 2D/3D design tools, Google Suite, video conferencing, and iPads.
• Adapt quickly to business changes and stay current on evolving design trends.

Required Qualifications and Attributes

• At least 1 year of relevant experience in furniture sales, home decor design, or customer service within a retail environment.
• Experience in individualized client consultations and recommending appropriate design solutions.
• Proficiency with Google platforms and virtual communication tools; experience with design software preferred.
• A solid grasp of design fundamentals, including spatial layouts, fabric and lighting selection, and varied interior styles.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain long-term client relationships.
