Role Summary and Responsibilities
This full-time position involves managing and operating AWS-based production infrastructure in close collaboration with an offshore DevOps engineer, ensuring almost 24/7 support for a consumer automotive platform encompassing inventory search, dealer tools, and AI-driven negotiation. The platform operates on AWS, Cloudflare, and Vercel.
- Take full ownership of AWS infrastructure encompassing compute, networking, load balancing, CDN, and IAM across multiple production services built on current web frameworks with dedicated search infrastructure.
- Lead the development and refinement of Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for all production services.
- Drive simplification of edge infrastructure by assessing and migrating routing and traffic management strategies as the architecture develops.
- Develop and maintain production-grade monitoring, alerting, and incident response solutions and participate in on-call rotations.
- Manage cloud cost optimization actively by identifying and reducing unnecessary compute, storage, and network expenses.
- Operate and fine-tune production search infrastructure, implementing scaling strategies to accommodate variable traffic loads.
- Regularly review and enhance access control policies across the infrastructure to minimize risk exposure.
- Collaborate with engineering and data teams in deployment processes, incident handling, security measures including dependency scanning, secrets management, and uptime monitoring.
Qualifications and Skills
- More than five years of practical experience with AWS services such as EC2, RDS, VPC, IAM, ALB/ELB, CloudFront, CodeBuild, and CodeDeploy.
- Demonstrated capability in constructing and maintaining CI/CD workflows, preferably with GitHub Actions or similar tools.
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL administration; knowledge of MySQL is advantageous.
- Strong scripting skills in Python and/or Bash to support automation and operational tasks.
- Experience handling production on-call duties and creating monitoring and alerting mechanisms from scratch.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a close, follow-the-sun model with overseas team members.
- Focus on cost-effective cloud operations, with prior involvement in cloud cost optimization highly desirable.
Preferred Additional Experience
- Working knowledge of Cloudflare services including DNS, WAF, and Workers.
- Experience with search infrastructure platforms like Typesense, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or similar.
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow.
- Exposure to AI and large language model API cost management or traffic routing systems.
