Role Overview
The Education Director is responsible for upholding and advancing the quality, consistency, and excellence of Environmental Science educational programming aligned with NatureBridge's mission. This leadership role focuses on the supervision, recruitment, training, and support of Environmental Science Educators while managing curriculum development, pedagogy, risk, and program logistics.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage program logistics by coordinating staffing with outreach and operations teams, balancing multiple priorities, and supporting day-to-day program operations as a manager and on-call director.
- Maintain a consistent presence on campus locations (Fort Cronkhite and Point Bonita) and assist in emergency responses along with leadership.
- Provide organizational leadership by representing educational goals on leadership teams, fostering inclusive decision-making, and collaborating with facilities for staff housing.
- Build strong relationships across the NatureBridge community and model inclusive, culturally responsive professional learning environments.
- Contribute to budget development and monitoring to ensure alignment with program objectives.
- Serve as Environmental Science Program Risk Manager while maintaining essential certifications such as Wilderness First Responder, CPR, AED, and epinephrine administration.
- Supervise education managers, lab staff, educators, and interns; guide curriculum strategies, staff professional development, and hiring processes.
- Oversee program delivery to ensure educational goals are met, incorporating Next Generation Science Standards, social-emotional learning, inquiry-based approaches, educational equity, and environmental responsibility.
- Maintain and manage departmental digital resources, labs, and compliance with permits.
- Monitor program quality through customer and staff feedback, and support program evaluation efforts.
- Collaborate with external partners such as the National Park Service and California Conservation Corps to implement internship programs.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary range: $72,000 - $76,000

Candidate Profile
- At least four years experience in nonprofit management, outdoor education, or equivalent education and work experience
- Deep understanding of experiential and inquiry-based teaching methods, social-emotional learning, inclusive education, and phenomenon-based science curricula
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity in education; candidates with personal or extensive experience with communities historically marginalized in environmental access are especially encouraged to apply
- Proven leadership in managing change and multiple teams with diverse priorities, including coaching and mentoring
- Extensive experience teaching youth, adults, and professional educators
- Excellent communication skills across writing, editing, and public speaking
- Certification or willingness to obtain Wilderness First Responder credentials after hiring

- This position is full-time and based onsite at the Marin Headlands campus in Sausalito, CA; remote work is not an option
