Overview
Lynker Corporation is a prominent provider specializing in innovative weather and climate science solutions. The company is committed to delivering enhanced operational weather forecasts through advanced technologies and scientific expertise. Lynker is expanding its team and is looking for a skilled Environmental Data Scientist to contribute to this mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize and catalog diverse environmental and geospatial datasets with consistent metadata and controlled vocabularies to ensure reproducibility and clear data lineage.
- Define and manage analytical rules and logic representation, versioning, and execution against layered datasets while maintaining traceable lineage from inputs to outputs.
- Design data products by specifying the content of analytical inputs and outputs, including results, metadata, and evolving schemas.
- Apply environmental and hydrologic domain expertise to inform how data is weighted, interpreted, and encoded into analytical rules.
- Create validation procedures, tests, and QA logic to guarantee accurate, transparent, and consistent analytical outputs.
- Document data schemas, analytical processes, and data sources clearly; collaborate closely with Science, Engineering, and Platform teams to maintain system clarity and accessibility.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in environmental or earth sciences, environmental data science, hydrology, or a related discipline; alternatively, a Bachelor's degree with at least two years of relevant data science experience applied to environmental issues, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong grounding in environmental science and data science with the ability to conceptualize and implement evidence representation and combination.
- Proficiency in data science programming languages such as Python or R for data manipulation, analysis, and modeling.
- Working knowledge of geospatial data science tools, including GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine) and spatial datasets.
- Ability to think structurally about data schemas and translate domain-specific logic into clear and verifiable computational rules.
- Excellent scientific and technical writing capabilities.
Preferred Experience
- Designing data schemas, structured data formats, or APIs with clear definitions for inputs and outputs tailored for downstream applications.
- Familiarity with rule-based or decision-support systems, emphasizing transparency and explainability of logic.
- Experience integrating data from multiple public and governmental sources such as USGS, NOAA, or PRISM for watershed or environmental evaluations.
- Background in applying machine learning or statistical models to environmental datasets.
- Evidence of scientific communication through publications or contributions to open-source projects.
- Physical presence in Colorado's Front Range area to enable regular in-person teamwork.
