Role Overview
As a housekeeper within social care settings—such as nursing homes, care homes, or supported living facilities—you will play an essential role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents. Your duties include making beds, handling laundry, managing housekeeping supply inventories, ordering necessary items, and ensuring communal and bedroom areas are well kept.
Compensation
The starting salary for this position is approximately £10.70 per hour, with potential growth to around £11.30 per hour.

Entry Criteria
While previous experience in care is not mandatory—as full training is provided—having an understanding of workplace health and safety and awareness of challenges faced by individuals requiring care is beneficial. Those who are compassionate and possess good communication skills are well suited for this role. Personal caring experience, transferable skills, and life experiences are also valued.
Career Development
You may start by gaining experience through volunteering or entry-level roles. Training will include health and safety, fire safety, and COSHH. Further specialized training such as autism awareness, communication skills, or dementia care may also be provided. With progression, opportunities exist to become a head or team leader housekeeper, and potentially advance to roles such as Care Assistant or Personal Assistant.
