Role Overview

We are seeking an Interior Book Designer to create and layout fiction and nonfiction books within the adult division, typically managing about 50 projects annually. This position offers the flexibility to work either remotely or in a hybrid setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and layout interior pages for trade books using Adobe InDesign, ranging from minor corrections to comprehensive original designs.
• Collaborate closely with Production Editorial teams to align manuscript coding and InDesign files, ensuring adherence to best practices.
• Understand the influence of design choices on subsequent ebook production and print editions.
• Develop designs that accommodate various production needs including match designs, reflows, conversions, and reissues.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum two years of experience in Adobe InDesign layout, with expert proficiency.
• At least one year designing original book interiors.
• Strong grasp of book composition standards and printing processes.
• Ability to interpret and apply proofreader’s marks accurately.
• Proficient in handling illustrations and photos using Adobe Photoshop.
• Skilled in creating and editing vector graphics with Adobe Illustrator.
