About the Role
Global Wave Group is seeking a Java Backend Engineer based in Albany, Auckland. This full-time onsite position involves key responsibility for architecting, developing, and sustaining backend systems critical for business operations. The role includes close collaboration with product management, QA, and development teams to build secure and highly performant backend solutions operating during the night hours.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend programs leveraging Java and Spring Boot frameworks.
- Create scalable RESTful APIs and design microservices for business needs.
- Optimize database schemas and queries for efficient data handling.
- Integrate backend services with third-party APIs and systems.
- Contribute to architectural design and participate in technical discussions.
- Monitor and troubleshoot production environments to resolve issues promptly.
- Enhance overall system performance, dependability, and security measures.
- Produce clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following software engineering standards.
- Conduct thorough code reviews and mentor team members by sharing technical expertise.
- Work collaboratively within Agile teams to meet project deadlines and goals.
Candidate Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional experience in Java development.
- Proficient in Java 8 or above and Spring Boot framework.
- Comprehensive understanding of RESTful API design and microservices architecture.
- Strong skills in SQL and relational databases, particularly MySQL.
- Hands-on experience with ORM technologies like MyBatis, Hibernate, or JPA.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git and continuous integration/deployment pipelines.
- Solid grasp of software design principles and industry best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging capabilities.
- Fluency in Chinese language, both written and spoken, is mandatory.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Working knowledge of AWS cloud platform services.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with messaging systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS SQS.
- Knowledge of caching solutions including Redis.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as ELK stack, Grafana, or Prometheus.
- Understanding of application security and user authentication frameworks.
- Exposure to FinTech, trading platforms, CRM, payment processing, or enterprise systems is advantageous.
Additional Information
The position entails working hours from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday through Friday, operating out of the Auckland Albany office. Reporting is directly to the Head of IT. Candidates must have strong language skills in Mandarin to effectively communicate within the role.
