Machinist

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Machinist to become an integral part of our expanding operations team. This position involves executing a wide range of routine and specialized machining tasks to prepare specimens for testing, ensuring accuracy and adherence to client requirements under supervision. The role requires strict compliance with safety regulations, company conduct codes, and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate cutting machinery to prepare test specimens as specified by customer guidelines.
• Design, set up, and carry out various machining assignments in line with client specifications.
• Work independently with minimal oversight from management or engineering staff.
• Provide mentorship and training to less experienced machinists by effectively conveying machining processes and technical knowledge.
• Transfer machining procedure expertise to meet and exceed customer expectations.
• Maintain machinery and plan preventative maintenance schedules to ensure optimal functioning.
• Collect and document dimensional data consistent with quality assurance standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Understanding of laboratory safety standards and protocols.
• High school diploma or GED preferred; college or vocational courses valued.
• Associate degree in a relevant testing, mechanical, or scientific discipline, or 3-6 years of experience in a machining shop environment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of specimen preparation and machining fundamentals.
• Familiarity with machining concepts, dimensional measurements, and related instruments.
• Strong computer skills and an ability to comprehend basic algebra and geometry principles.
• Knowledge of machine shop safety procedures.

Physical Requirements

• Moderate physical exertion frequently required.
• Ability to lift less than 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally more than 50 pounds.
• Capable of standing for extended periods.
