Job Purpose
This position is responsible for planning and overseeing the effective and dependable maintenance of electrical switchyards and power transformer sections. The role involves strategic planning, ensuring compliance with safety norms and industry standards, resource management, and driving operational excellence aligned with the organization’s sustainability and long-term goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical switchyard and power transformer maintenance team, providing strategic and tactical planning input.
- Develop and supervise preventive maintenance systems to avoid failures and enhance reliability.
- Engage in knowledge-sharing forums and industry seminars to stay updated on best practices.
- Review and update Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with budget considerations.
- Plan, schedule, and execute shutdowns, annual maintenance, and overhaul projects efficiently.
- Drive improvement initiatives using new technologies in switchyard and transformer maintenance.
- Monitor preventive, corrective, and condition-based maintenance activities ensuring timely completion.
- Manage electrical equipment testing to guarantee safety and dependability.
- Oversee SAP notification tracking and closure within stipulated timelines.
- Ensure availability, functionality, and upkeep of critical equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, and earthing systems.
- Supervise spares inventory management, including developing critical indigenous parts like radiators, bushings, and various electrical switchyard components.
- Coordinate timely repair and refurbishment work for associated equipment.
- Authorize purchase requests from team leads and liaise with the techno-commercial department for procurement efficiency.
- Monitor contractors and vendors to assure quality and cost-effectiveness in services and supplies.
- Enforce compliance with IMS, AWMS, DISHA, ABEM, and CHETNA guidelines within the department.
- Implement hazard mitigation strategies and participate in safety drills to uphold a secure working environment.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective measures to avoid recurrence of defects.
- Ensure legal and statutory compliances such as electrical license renewals and certifications.
- Coordinate with government bodies and regulatory authorities for compliance and scheduling outages.
- Perform technical audits including MoC, FMEA, ZFO, ISO, IWMS, and 5S to maintain operational standards.
- Lead digitalization and automation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and integrate newer technologies.
- Recruit, mentor, and motivate the maintenance team and business associates, fostering skill development and high retention.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders both within and outside the company for seamless operations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (BE/B.Tech) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from a recognized university or institute.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical maintenance, specifically within power generation, transmission, or distribution sectors emphasizing switchyard operations.
Stakeholders
Engagements span across internal departments including service units, head office, techno-commercial teams, and external entities such as government agencies, vendors, and contractors.
