About the Role
The PGA TOUR is seeking a Manager to lead Player & Agent Communications, responsible for supporting player and agent communications objectives and strategy year-round. This role offers media and communications assistance to PGA TOUR players and their agents, managing media requests, brand-building strategies, player messaging, and crisis communications. The Manager will collaborate closely with Publicity, Player Relations, Player Partnerships, and other internal departments to coordinate and strategize player participation in media and content efforts.
Primary Duties
- Establish and nurture relationships with players and agents to deliver ongoing year-round media and communications support, understanding individual player schedules, preferences, and branding goals.
- Act as an advisor for agents and players on media opportunities aiming to elevate player profiles and brands, including crisis communications assistance when required.
- Coordinate with the Publicity team to manage inbound media inquiries, scout new media outlets for player storytelling, and contribute to weekly Player Pitch meetings.
- Manage Player Opportunities and Scheduling by collaborating with PGA TOUR media officials to prioritize and strategize player requests from both internal and external parties.
- Serve as the primary booking contact for players with internal teams (content, broadcast, media) and external partners such as Golf Channel, Sirius XM, CBS, and NBC; lead quarterly content capture initiatives including carwash events.
- Lead the project management of "PGA TOUR Media Day," facilitating media partner access for promotional content creation, including headshots and interviews.
- Support New Member Orientation, assist with Agent Certification, and represent Communications at first-time winner meetings.
- Participate actively in weekly Player Partnership meetings to support sponsorship opportunities through content and earned media; oversee communication materials related to Player Partnerships.
- Monitor and report on player media requests (both fulfilled and declined), update the player CRM regularly, and analyze trends in declined requests to inform strategy.
- Manage the Fan Focus Index by identifying players with rising popularity and opportunities for engagement growth.
- Contribute to PGA TOUR Content development by generating ideas and facilitating player involvement in on-site execution.
- Maintain a Notable Quotes database to support the Communications and Player Relations teams.
- Share detailed reports on content and messaging outcomes with media partners and agents, including key performance indicators.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related discipline is essential; advanced degrees are advantageous.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, or media relations, preferably within golf tournament communications, sports event management, or athlete relations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with digital publishing tools, content management systems, and social media platforms.
- Outstanding organizational, multitasking, and time management capabilities with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including content creation, editing, pitching ideas, and public speaking with adaptability for various audiences and channels.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across departments and stakeholder groups in a matrixed organizational setting.
- Readiness to respond promptly to inquiries from players, agents, and media, including outside regular hours such as evenings and weekends.
- Professional demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills; able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness and ability to travel and accommodate flexible working hours, including weekends and evenings.
- Capability to safely operate utility vehicles like golf carts and shuttles, especially during on-site tournament operations.
