Role Overview
The Planner role involves developing and refining demand forecasts to support production scheduling, inventory management, and overall supply chain efficiency. This role requires close partnership with Manufacturing, Procurement, Warehouse, Inventory Control, Customer Service, and other teams to synchronize customer demand with production capabilities and maintain optimal inventory levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, manage, and enhance weekly, monthly, and long-term demand forecasts using sales data, statistical methods, market insights, and business intelligence.
- Interpret demand trends, evaluate forecast accuracy, and assess customer requirements to identify risks and opportunities.
- Develop demand plans for new product launches, product lifecycle transitions, and phasing out end-of-life products.
- Keep forecast assumptions current and communicate major demand variations to relevant stakeholders.
- Supervise inventory levels and collaborate with Warehouse, Inventory Control, Procurement, and Production Planning teams to balance stock levels, avoiding both shortages and excess.
- Propose inventory strategies to improve turnover rates while maintaining excellent customer service levels.
- Detect and manage slow-moving or surplus inventory, aiding in mitigation efforts.
- Work cross-functionally with teams including Manufacturing, Procurement, Customer Service, Sales, Engineering, and Finance to align demand plans with capacity and supply availability.
- Contribute to Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) sessions by providing analysis, forecasts, and recommendations.
- Support capacity planning by communicating demand changes and production requirements.
- Track and enhance key performance indicators such as forecast accuracy, bias, inventory turnover, customer service levels, and stock availability.
- Conduct root cause analysis for forecast deviations and implement corrective measures.
- Design reports and dashboards to aid business decision-making.
- Maintain accurate planning data within ERP systems like SAP.
- Generate analyses, reports, and forecast models using SAP and Microsoft Excel.
- Drive continuous improvements in forecasting methods, planning processes, and inventory performance.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to increase supply chain efficiency, lower costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives within the supply chain.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, Operations Management, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in demand planning, forecasting, production planning, or supply chain roles within a manufacturing context.
- In-depth knowledge of demand forecasting techniques and inventory planning strategies.
- Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, formulas, and data analysis tools.
- Experience with ERP platforms, preferably SAP.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills enabling effective collaboration with multiple departments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in electronics manufacturing, EMS, SMT, or high-volume production environments.
- Familiarity with statistical forecasting techniques and demand planning software tools.
- Experience with Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) processes.
- Understanding of inventory optimization and supply planning concepts.
- Certifications such as APICS CPIM or CSCP.
- Proficiency in handling large data sets and business intelligence reporting tools.
