About Partly
Partly operates internationally with headquarters in Austin, TX and offices in London, UK, Christchurch, and Auckland, New Zealand. New team members are onboarded with their nearest office and invited to quarterly team gatherings with travel and accommodation expenses covered. Relocation assistance is also provided if applicable. The Product Engineer role is based in the Christchurch office.
Partly is on a mission to revolutionize global parts connectivity, starting by creating the first comprehensive digital platform for replacement parts, particularly automotive. Founded by former Rocket Lab engineers, Partly harnesses advanced technology to innovate within a $1.9 trillion industry that is largely untapped digitally. The company has experienced rapid growth and supports major businesses and startups worldwide by providing scalable infrastructure for parts cataloging and management.
Investors include prominent venture firms and notable founders from companies such as Canva, CultureAmp, Notion, and Figma. The company culture values excellence and collaborative growth, creating an environment for people to accomplish their best work.
Role Overview
This is a hands-on product development role where you independently manage product features end-to-end—from ideation and customer engagement to building, launching, measuring success, and iterating. The role emphasizes close involvement with users, rapid prototyping with AI-assisted tools, and delivering intuitive, trusted solutions for a fragmented and traditionally offline industry.
You will work with Partly's proprietary AI model, Interpreter, which uniquely understands parts and the physical relationships in the automotive sector. Your responsibility will include crafting new agentic user experiences that evolve from manual tasks to supervised automation, ensuring users maintain control and trust throughout high-stakes workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop rapid prototypes using AI and large language model tools to test ideas quickly with customers.
- Ship high-quality production features, monitor their performance, and make data-driven decisions to improve them.
- Maintain close interaction with estimators, parts managers, and other users to deeply understand workflow challenges.
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative user data to inform feature prioritization and design.
- Take full ownership of product outcomes, including prioritization, quality, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Balance engineering effort and product impact when choosing implementation paths.
- Design user experiences that move from manual operations toward supervised delegation via AI agents.
- Uphold high standards for usability and performance and advocate for product quality.
- Collaborate with software engineers developing core systems, shared components, and contribute to best practices and craftsmanship across teams.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience building and shipping software products with end-to-end accountability.
- Demonstrated commitment to deeply understanding users by observing them in their real work environment.
- Proven skills in delivering polished user experiences for complex, high-stakes workflows and non-technical users.
- Strong perspective on designing automated, agent-driven features that earn user trust through gradual supervised delegation.
- Expertise in rapid prototyping using AI-assisted development approaches.
- Solid full-stack software engineering skills with emphasis on frontend development and producing maintainable code.
- Ability to effectively balance product benefits and engineering costs and identify efficient development strategies.
- Strong analytical skills to define metrics, interpret usage data independently, and influence product direction.
- Comfortable operating autonomously in ambiguous settings and shaping product problems rather than following detailed specs.
- Preferred but not required: experience shipping AI-enabled features, working on multi-persona or operational B2B products, startup founding or key early employee background, readiness to abandon features when appropriate, domain knowledge in automotive aftermarket, repair or insurance, marketplace or network experience, willingness to learn Rust programming language.
Work Philosophy
Your approach will be independent and user-focused, emphasizing fast iteration and continuous learning from real-world feedback. You will prioritize ownership, sound judgment, and empathy to create impactful software experiences that work seamlessly beyond demos or prototypes.
Additional Benefits
- Daily healthy catered lunches available at all Partly offices in Auckland, Christchurch, London, and Austin.
- Annual wellness allowance of $1,500 (or local equivalent) per employee for health-related expenses including gym, therapy, medical care, and more.
- Three months of fully paid parental leave for primary caregivers plus flexible return-to-work options at full pay.
- Paid parking or commuting allowance for those traveling to the office.
- Modern, well-designed office spaces fostering collaboration, creativity, and social connection.
- Office-first culture with flexibility to manage your schedule around personal needs.
- Regular social events such as weekly happy hours, monthly team lunches, quarterly gatherings, and annual global offsite meetings.
Relocation Support
If relocating domestically or internationally to a Partly office, a generous relocation allowance is provided to facilitate the move.
