Project Director - Major Building Construction

Position Summary

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an accomplished Project Director to lead the planning and execution of extensive building construction projects based in Edmonton, Alberta, with some travel across Western Canada. This executive-level role demands a seasoned professional experienced in managing complex Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional projects exceeding $100 million in value.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead strategic oversight for projects from initial pursuit and preconstruction stages through to completion and handover.
• Drive project teams to meet targets related to schedules, budgets, quality standards, and profitability goals.
• Formulate execution plans and allocate resources efficiently to ensure project success.
• Regularly review project performance, assess risks, and apply corrective measures to sustain project health.
• Forge and nurture strong partnerships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and relevant industry participants.
• Contribute to business growth through involvement in client acquisition efforts including proposal development and contract negotiation.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety, environmental regulations, quality assurance, and compliance requirements throughout projects.
• Manage financial aspects such as budgeting, forecasting, contract oversight, and project controls.
• Guide teams in critical decision-making processes and resolve issues proactively.
• Promote continuous improvement initiatives and standardize best practices in project delivery.
• Coach and mentor project management personnel to foster professional development.
• Support recruitment, succession planning, and cultivation of a high-performing, accountable workplace culture.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum 15 years in construction, including at least 10 years in senior project leadership roles within general contracting firms.
• Demonstrated success managing large-scale ICI, commercial, institutional, or mixed-use construction projects with budgets exceeding $100 million.
• Comprehensive knowledge of project delivery methodologies, operational workflows, risk mitigation, and financial governance.
• Experience directing multidisciplinary teams and navigating intricate stakeholder relationships.
• Exceptional skills in leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem resolution.
• Preferred educational background includes a degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
