Overview
The Public Affairs Manager at Horse Racing Ireland is tasked with designing and executing strategies to enhance and protect the organisation's public image, influence policymaking, and foster relationships with key stakeholders such as government agencies, industry groups, community organizations, media, and external partners. This role champions the organisation's interests in policy dialogues and supports corporate goals through strategic engagement.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create and implement public affairs plans aligned with organisational goals.
- Establish and nurture connections with government officials, regulators, policymakers, and industry representatives.
- Track legal, regulatory, and policy developments impacting the organisation.
- Prepare policy briefs, position statements, consultation feedback, and advocacy documents.
- Represent the organisation at external forums including meetings, conferences, and stakeholder gatherings.
- Develop robust relationships with stakeholders, community groups, and industry bodies.
- Coordinate engagement initiatives supporting business priorities.
- Seek partnership opportunities to elevate the organisation's influence and profile.
- Oversee community outreach and corporate social responsibility programs as appropriate.
- Assist in crafting strategic communication campaigns linked to public affairs and policies.
- Write and edit press releases, briefings, speeches, statements, and communication content.
- Collaborate with communications and marketing teams to ensure consistent messaging.
- Address public affairs concerns and aid crisis communication efforts when necessary.
- Conduct research and analyses on political, legal, regulatory, and industry shifts.
- Evaluate potential risks and opportunities from policy changes.
- Advise senior leadership on emergent issues with actionable recommendations.
- Generate reports on public affairs activities and outcomes of stakeholder engagement.
- Contribute insights to organisational strategy from a public affairs perspective.
- Manage external consultants, agencies, and advocacy partners as needed.
- Administer budgets related to public affairs initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, professional codes, and internal policies in all public affairs ventures.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Law, Business, or a comparable discipline.
- Professional credentials in communications, public affairs, or government relations are advantageous.
- At least five years of experience in public affairs, government relations, communications, public policy, or corporate affairs.
- Experience collaborating with governmental entities, regulators, industry groups, or advocacy organizations.
- A proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships and influence policy processes.
- Skilled in developing and executing strategic communication campaigns.
