Quantity Surveyor - Transportation

Overview

SMEC, part of the SJ Group, is hiring a Quantity Surveyor for its Bangalore office. The role focuses on transportation projects and involves managing cost estimation, budgeting, BOQ preparation, and contract administration across major infrastructure work, including rail and metro as well as roads and highways. The objective is to keep project costs under control through every stage of delivery.

Core Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive cost estimates, budgets, and Bills of Quantities for both pre-contract and post-contract phases.
• Carry out quantity measurements, rate analysis, and benchmarking of costs.
• Track project spend and contribute to value engineering efforts.
• Draft tender documentation and support procurement activities.
• Handle contract administration duties, including variations and change control.
• Work in line with FIDIC, CVC, GFR guidelines and other relevant industry requirements.
• Partner with project managers, clients, and cross-functional teams to keep work aligned.

Skills and Attributes

• Hands-on capability in BOQ development, cost estimation, and quantity measurement using tools such as AutoCAD and Revit.
• Understanding of infrastructure contracting and procurement processes.
• Strong analytical thinking along with negotiation and communication ability.
• Comfort with MS Office; CostX knowledge is an added advantage.

Qualifications and Experience

• A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, quantity surveying, or construction management.
• At least 6 years of relevant experience in infrastructure projects.
