The Sampling and Laboratory Technician will be responsible for collecting water and environmental samples across the Central Otago region. The role encompasses conducting laboratory tests and preparing samples for dispatch to other Eurofins labs, as well as managing communication with clients to coordinate sampling schedules. Key Responsibilities

  • Strategically plan and execute daily sampling routes to maximize efficiency and minimize travel distances.
  • Provide courteous, professional, and timely communication with the public and clients, addressing basic inquiries effectively.
  • Collect samples with strict adherence to contamination prevention protocols and perform required on-site measurements.
  • Document sampling details meticulously including time, location, and measurement data.
  • Operate according to company Quality and Procedures manuals.
  • Perform analyses aiming to meet or surpass customer expectations.
  • Process samples within stipulated time and temperature constraints, following NZ Drinking Water Standards, Resource Consents, and relevant regulations.
  • Carry out in-laboratory testing as necessary.
  • Adhere to company Health and Safety policies.
  • Notify the Laboratory Manager promptly of any operational issues or equipment malfunctions.
  • Identify and propose improvements for service delivery proactively.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned.
  • Implement company Lean Principles in daily work practices.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Possession of a full, clean New Zealand Driver’s Licence.
  • A Certificate or Diploma in Laboratory Techniques, an equivalent qualification, or substantial laboratory experience.
  • Previous experience in a commercial laboratory setting is advantageous.
  • Experience in administrative roles is considered a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to convey information logically and precisely.
  • Proficiency in common office software, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Keen attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
