About the role
As a Support Worker in the Counties area, you will help adults with intellectual disabilities live fulfilling lives both at home and in their local community. The work is practical, people-focused, and often creative, with an emphasis on making each day meaningful for the individuals you support.
Location and working pattern
- The Counties area covers Takanini, Papakura, Pukekohe, and Waiuku.
- This is a full-time position with 65 hours per fortnight, plus sleepover shifts.
- You must be available for a mix of rostered shifts, including mornings, evenings, overnight sleepovers, and regular weekends.
- The pay rate is $24.68 to $30.13 per hour, based on relevant qualifications.
Key responsibilities
Your work will involve supporting people to build independence, manage day-to-day routines, and stay connected to the things that matter to them. You will also contribute to their health, safety, wellbeing, and community participation.
About the role in practice
- Support people to develop everyday living skills, such as using public transport and preparing meals.
- Assist with personal care tasks, including showering, dressing, and taking medication.
- Encourage participation in hobbies, interests, personal goals, and activities that bring enjoyment.
- Promote healthy choices and support each person’s overall wellbeing in a way that suits their needs.
- Provide steady, respectful support when behaviour is complex or challenging, while maintaining dignity and safety.
- Help people stay connected with whānau, co-workers, and the wider community.
What you will bring
- Experience in health or disability support is an advantage, but people with a strong interest in building a career in this field and a positive attitude are also encouraged to apply.
- Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including early shifts, late shifts, overnight sleepovers, and weekends.
- Confidence supporting people with complex behaviours, with a willingness to use calm and respectful approaches; training will be provided.
- Comfort using computers and tablets for note-taking and communication.
- Clear written and spoken communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
- Physical capability to provide hands-on support when required.
- A full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence.
