About SpaceX and the Role
SpaceX envisions a future where humanity explores the stars, developing technology to eventually enable human life on Mars. The Starshield team is seeking a Technical Writer dedicated to preparing and updating technical specifications and requirement documents specifically for cryptographic and security systems. This role involves close collaboration with software and hardware engineers to produce clear, high-quality documents that support certification processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive technical and requirements documentation such as security evaluation materials, verification and validation plans, and design documents.
- Work together with software engineers to craft precise descriptions of software functionality aimed at technical audiences.
- Ensure all necessary documentation is delivered punctually to external evaluators.
- Suggest and implement improvements to the requirements management systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or at least 3 years of technical writing professional experience in place of a degree.
- Minimum of one year experience in technical writing roles.
- Familiarity with version control tools, especially Git.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience creating requirements documents following information security standards.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Strong command of written English with excellent grammar.
- Background in drafting detailed test plans for security assessments.
- Aptitude for quickly assimilating technical information and expressing it precisely.
- Experience using project management software.
- Knowledge of LaTeX for document preparation.
- Capability to obtain and maintain Top Secret or Top Secret SCI security clearance.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to travel up to approximately 15% to other company locations.
- Availability to work extended hours, including occasional weekends, to meet critical project deadlines or proposal timelines.
- The role mandates successful acquisition and maintenance of a Top Secret clearance; inability to obtain this clearance may lead to modification or termination of employment.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range is $80,000 to $95,000 annually, dependent on factors like skills, education, and experience. The total compensation package may include company stock, long-term cash awards, discretionary bonuses, and stock purchase options.
