Role overview
Dynacare is hiring a full-time, permanent Technician for its Laboratory Health Services Centre in Winnipeg Clinic LHSC, located at 425 St Mary Ave, Winnipeg, Manitoba. This role supports patient care by collecting blood specimens and other samples, carrying out routine patient tests, and helping maintain a reliable, welcoming service environment.
Schedule and compensation
The position follows a Monday to Friday schedule, from 8:30am to 4:30pm, totaling 37.5 hours each week. Pay is provided according to the collective agreement.
What you will do
You will perform routine laboratory procedures that support diagnosis and treatment. The role involves safe specimen collection, accurate documentation, equipment upkeep, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
- Collect venous and capillary blood samples.
- Carry out routine tasks such as urine collection and specimen preparation.
- Follow required procedures for handling infectious substances.
- Keep complete and accurate records of test and control results.
- Prepare monthly quality control statistical reports.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of equipment.
- Observe all safety precautions while carrying out assigned work.
- Handle additional duties as assigned.
Skills and knowledge needed
Applicants should bring laboratory or phlebotomy experience, along with strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a team. The role also calls for good organization, clear communication, independent working ability, and comfort in a busy, fast-moving setting.
- Training as a Laboratory Technician, or equivalent practical experience.
- Medical terminology is considered an advantage.
- Hands-on phlebotomy experience.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks at once.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong organizational ability.
- Comfort working in a high-paced environment.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
Employment conditions
This role is governed by the collective agreement. Applicants should also note that Article 2 and Article 7 of the agreement apply to temporary positions, job postings, promotions, and transfers.
Employment is conditional on a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search, as well as Child Abuse Registry and Adult Abuse Registry checks. The selected candidate must cover any related service charges. A security check is considered current only if it was completed within six months before the employment start date.
