Overview
This role involves editing video content for NJ PBS broadcasts, streaming services, and digital platforms. Reporting to the News Director, the editor collaborates with producers, content partners, and programming teams to craft packages, promos, long-form programs, and digital shorts, ensuring all materials meet stringent broadcast technical and editorial standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit a range of video content—including features, clips, short form videos, social media posts, promos, and long-form pieces—to meet broadcast specifications.
- Work closely with producers, programming staff, and external content partners to develop engaging storylines and pacing during the editing process.
- Perform color correction and audio mixing to comply with broadcast technical standards.
- Organize and manage media assets in the Media Asset Management (MAM) system, maintaining detailed metadata and project files.
- Deliver high-quality edits within tight deadlines.
- Ensure technical adherence for broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms, including maintaining appropriate loudness levels and frame accuracy.
- Identify and suggest improvements to post-production workflows to enhance efficiency.
- Archive completed projects according to station policies on retention and file naming.
- Uphold NJ PBS editorial guidelines and ethical standards for public media.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, with management reserving the right to update responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, broadcasting, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- At least three years of professional experience as a video editor.
- Proficiency with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, or equivalents.
- Experience editing content tailored for broadcast or digital distribution adhering to technical delivery standards.
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced news production environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within a public media or broadcast news editing context.
- Familiarity with Media Asset Management (MAM) systems.
- Knowledge of closed captioning and accessibility regulations.

- The salary range for this position is $76,486 to $84,131 annually.
