Yard Worker Lead

Job Overview

This is a full-time role based outdoors in the yard, involving the removal of parts from vehicles. The position includes leadership duties such as overseeing work, assigning tasks, and resolving issues among team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Function in a leadership capacity by reviewing peers' work, managing special assignments, and addressing routine challenges.
• Operate equipment like forklifts or loaders to transfer cars between processing areas and the yard.
• Clean debris from vehicles prior to processing.
• Extract batteries for testing and resale and transport charged batteries to the retail section.
• Coordinate with the Loader Operator to correctly position or move vehicles in the yard.
• Inspect the yard to remove debris from cars exiting the area.
• Dismantle tires safely and efficiently.
• Maintain a clean and safe workspace adhering to safety standards.
• Comply with EPA and OSHA regulations at all times.
• Wear all mandated personal protective equipment.
• Follow all company policies and procedures meticulously.
• Contribute to ongoing improvements in the quality system.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Supervision

Lead fellow employees performing similar tasks by setting priorities, scheduling, and reviewing work without authority over hiring, firing, performance evaluations, or compensation decisions.

Requirements

• Minimum of three years of relevant experience with full competence in job functions and thorough knowledge of required tasks.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Mathematical proficiency including basic operations and the ability to calculate ratios, percentages, and interpret graphical data.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, including the use of functions in documents and spreadsheets to support business goals.
• Effective communication skills in both oral and written forms; capable of training others and presenting to management.
• Ability to resolve routine problems by adhering to established instructions and procedures.
• Decision-making typically impacts personal work or assigned areas with guidance provided by supervisors.
• Capability to manage multiple moderately complex tasks or projects simultaneously.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Physical activities include standing, walking, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, reaching, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or extended sitting.
• Exposure to potentially hazardous conditions and equipment, including cramped spaces and awkward positions under vehicles.
• Mandatory use of personal protective equipment frequently.
• Work environment may involve extreme temperatures and high noise levels.
• Occasional travel including overnight stays may be necessary depending on position requirements.
• Must be capable of lifting up to 75 pounds.
