Role Overview

We are seeking a highly imaginative and proactive Art Assistant to contribute to our vibrant team. Collaborating with our Director, Junior Set Designer, and production crew, you will take charge of the visual implementation of diverse projects. Your involvement ranges from initial concept development and mock-ups to prop fabrication, set decoration, and managing final shoot execution.

This position demands active engagement throughout the entire creative life cycle, transforming bold creative ideas into tangible and visually appealing outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Director and Junior Set Designer to shape and realize the visual style of projects.
• Produce visual mock-ups, moodboards, references, and practical tests to visualize concepts before production.
• Design, construct, modify, and complete props, set elements, and practical components for social videos, branded content, and larger productions.
• Participate in creative brainstorming, pre-production discussions, technical site visits, and production coordination from a visual standpoint.
• Conduct research and procure props, materials, furniture, costumes, and set-dressing items while considering budgetary and scheduling constraints.
• Plan and troubleshoot practical execution of visual concepts, proposing creative solutions to potential challenges ahead of shoots.
• Organize and maintain props, materials, and workshop equipment in preparation for production.
• Coordinate with Junior Set Designer to monitor and update prop inventories.
• Maintain workshop and studio cleanliness, and supervise stock levels of materials, equipment, and props.
• Assist in set building, dressing, and resetting to ensure visual consistency and well-considered framing.
• Work closely with producers, camera operators, VFX artists, and other teams to integrate practical and digital elements effectively.
• Manage prop details and make rapid adjustments on shoots, addressing unexpected visual challenges.
• Own the visual narrative of projects, ensuring consistency from initial design through to final shoot.

Candidate Profile

• A highly creative and visually oriented individual driven by the journey from concept to physical creation.
• Hands-on experience in crafting, adapting, painting, or styling props, sets, or creative installations.
• Strong attention to design elements such as color, composition, texture, and detail.
• Willingness to experiment with various materials and openness to learning new techniques to achieve desired effects.
• Organized multitasker capable of handling multiple props, purchases, references, and deadlines while maintaining the larger creative vision.
• Ability to contribute ideas while adhering to guidance and constructively incorporating feedback.
• Ability to think quickly and stay composed when faced with changes, breakages, or unforeseen issues during production.
• Understanding of content optimized for social media and the visual impact of props and sets within fast-paced frames.
• A collaborative, proactive team player enthusiastic about contributing across all facets to create exceptional projects.

Essential Qualifications

• A portfolio or samples demonstrating capability in prop creation, set pieces, or practical visual crafts, whether from professional work, academic projects, personal endeavors, theatre, cosplay, or independent making.
• Practical experience working with materials and tools utilizing skills like painting, sculpting, model-making, fabrication, or set dressing.
• Competence in producing visual references, moodboards, or mock-ups to clearly communicate design ideas.
• Basic grasp of translating creative ideas into practical, shoot-ready constructions.
• Strong organizational and communication abilities to handle materials, procurement, deadlines, and evolving production needs.
• Familiarity with design software tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, CAD, or 3D printing technologies is advantageous but not mandatory.
• A proactive problem-solver with flexibility to work in various settings including studio, workshop, external locations, and shoot sites.
• Must hold a valid full driving license.
