Overview
Hervey Bay RSL, located at 11-13 Torquay Road, Pialba, Queensland, is a popular entertainment venue boasting over 40,000 members. Facilities include a restaurant, café, five bars, child fun centre, function spaces, auditorium, bottle shop, gaming machines, Keno & TAB, and more. We are seeking a skilled Assistant Restaurant Manager who will oversee front-of-house catering operations ensuring excellent customer service and consistent staff performance under the guidance of the Restaurant Manager and Executive Chef.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and motivate restaurant staff during shifts and provide clear guidance
- Train staff effectively and assist with roster management using Tanda, including preparing and covering shifts when needed
- Manage staff performance through regular appraisals and handle customer complaints professionally and promptly
- Ensure staff adhere to the organisation's S.M.I.L.E values and maintain coordination with the Head Chef as required
- Prepare the restaurant for service by arranging cutlery, decorations, and accompaniments
- Gain familiarity with the menu, including daily specials, and assist with servery/pass operations
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in dining areas, overseeing clearing of plates and glasses
- Collaborate with the Function Coordinator for event planning, staffing, and setup
- Organise and input weekly staff rosters two weeks in advance, monitor payroll data, and work to optimise wage costs
- Administer front-of-house cash registers ensuring accuracy, resolving discrepancies responsibly
- Promote sales by encouraging up-selling and cross-selling through staff training on product knowledge
- Keep records of stock levels and financial transactions relevant to restaurant operations
- Maintain service standards as per club policies including Responsible Service of Alcohol compliance
- Coach and train staff on the job, cover shifts during absences to sustain high service quality
- Complete shift diary entries to aid communication, suggest operational improvements to management
- Uphold safe work practices, maintain hygienic food handling and cleanliness standards among staff
- Identify and report workplace hazards to the Workplace Health & Safety Officer
- Ensure cleanliness and safety in front-of-house and surrounding customer areas
- Engage courteously with patrons and guests, delivering respectful customer interactions
Qualification and Experience Requirements
- Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification
- Minimum two years’ experience as a Supervisor or Manager in a similar setting
- Possession of a Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Effective interpersonal skills with all age groups
- Capability to perform well under pressure and work independently with minimal supervision
- Proficient in handling sales transactions accurately
- High personal standards for hygiene and grooming
- Demonstrated focus on customer service excellence
- Willingness and flexibility to work varied hours as needed
