About the Role
Central Otago District Council is dedicated to delivering consistent, professional, and high-standard regulatory services that support safe building practices and sustainable growth throughout the district. We are looking for a Building Control Officer – Processing to join our Regulatory Services team to help uphold strong building control standards and ensure compliance with Building Consent Authority (BCA) requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and assess building consent applications and related documents for adherence to the Building Act 2004, New Zealand Building Code, and applicable regulations.
- Examine plans, engineering documents, specifications, and producer statements thoroughly.
- Determine compliance pathways, including acceptable and alternative solutions.
- Issue Requests for Information (RFIs) as necessary to clarify applications.
- Ensure all regulatory decisions are well-supported and clearly documented.
- Contribute actively to the Council's BCA accreditation and maintain quality assurance systems.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a recognized building qualification aligned with Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
- Experience processing building consents, particularly within Residential 1–2 classifications.
- Strong understanding of the Building Act 2004 and the New Zealand Building Code.
- Capable of interpreting legislation and applying it effectively in a regulatory context.
- Excellent communication skills, including technical writing proficiency.
