Role Overview
The CAM Programmer's primary responsibility is to verify and modify solid models aligning with CAM specifications, and to establish, create, and refine CNC programs for various machinery including lathes, mills, and drills using industry-standard CAD and CAM tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop programs for multi-axis CNC milling and turning equipment.
- Customize and advance CAD applications in Solid Edge and CAM operations within the EDGECAM software environment.
- Advise and optimize tooling choices for machining processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve programming issues encountered on the production floor.
- Manage work orders and undertake additional assigned duties.
- Participate in continuous process improvement initiatives within programming and shop floor activities.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in programming CNC turning and milling through CAD/CAM software.
- Experience in machining and process development is advantageous.
- Proficiency with Edgecam and Solid Edge software is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with work order management and revision control systems.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Able to remain seated for extended periods (at least 2 hours).
- Physical capability to access all areas of office, shop, warehouse, and manufacturing facilities.
- Ability to lift objects up to 10 pounds regularly and carry up to 20 pounds.
- Capabilities to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and hold items while operating at a workstation.
- Manual dexterity sufficient for office equipment operation.
- Strong multitasking skills, managing shifting priorities effectively.
- English language proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.
- Adequate responsiveness to visual and auditory signals.
Work Environment
Work will predominantly occur at Smiths locations, possibly extending to customer sites such as oil wells or event venues. Factory floor environments often involve high noise levels, necessitating approved personal protective equipment (PPE).
