Construction Engineer - CHO Projects MEP

Role Overview

This position is for a Civil/Construction Engineer supporting CHO Projects MEP work at a refinery site in Jamnagar. The role focuses on field execution, quality checks, coordination with contractors and survey teams, and ensuring civil works are carried out as per drawings, standards, and safety practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee area grading and land development activities.
• Review plot plans and setting-out drawings, and translate them into field execution.
• Work with the surveyor to mark plot boundaries, establish the initial reduced level of the site, and assess cutting and filling quantities.
• Send soil samples to the laboratory for OMC and MDD testing, and carry out regular field compaction tests.
• Monitor compaction and resource utilization, and escalate to supervisors if contractors deploy insufficient manpower, plant, or equipment.
• Ensure proper layer-wise filling and correct levels during cutting and filling operations.
• Review contractor DPRs and share progress updates with the project control team.
• Support daily execution while interpreting project standards, specifications, and drawings.
• Verify rebar bending in the yard and certify the bar bending schedule.
• Inspect rebar fixing and shuttering to confirm compliance with drawings, cover, spacing, lap length, and hook requirements.
• Check that scaffolding, staging, handrails, and ladders are installed correctly for work at height.
• Confirm RA sheets are completed correctly and duly signed.
• Inspect concreting operations, including compaction, field quality tests, and cube sampling.
• Review concrete surface rendering and finishing, including fireproof surface work.
• Ensure embedded items such as anchor bolts and insert plates are positioned, aligned, and welded properly before concreting.
• Verify proper backfilling compaction and curing practices.

Education Requirement

• Degree in Civil Engineering
• Diploma in Civil Engineering

Experience Requirement

• Degree holders should have 6 to 8 years of experience.
• Diploma holders should have 14 to 16 years of experience.
• Experience in refinery or petrochemical construction is preferred.
