Controller - Database Administration

Role Overview

This position is responsible for guaranteeing the efficient and secure operation of the organization's database management systems. Key duties include optimizing database performance, implementing comprehensive backup and recovery protocols, and maintaining the highest standards of data integrity and security.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, deployment, and upkeep of database environments ensuring peak performance and data accuracy.
• Continuously monitor database operation to detect performance bottlenecks and apply optimizations such as performance tuning to enhance system responsiveness.
• Develop and enforce robust backup and disaster recovery strategies to protect vital data and maintain business continuity.
• Coordinate planned database upgrades and migrations carefully to avoid operational downtime.
• Establish and maintain stringent database security policies, including user access management, permissions, and encryption methodologies to defend against unauthorized data breach risks.
• Manage system-wide access, administering user privileges and roles to comply strictly with internal security standards.
• Provide expertise on SAP BASIS administration, including installation, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of SAP systems for optimal functionality.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve database challenges such as connectivity issues, data corruption, and performance anomalies to minimize service interruption.
• Develop and update comprehensive disaster recovery plans detailing processes designed to restore data and system operations after critical failures.
• Collaborate closely with developers, systems administrators, and other stakeholders to understand system requirements, offer technical support, and ensure integration of database systems.
• Adhere to health, safety, and security protocols as stipulated by the company and airport authorities.
• Execute additional relevant tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
• A minimum of four years’ relevant experience is essential.
• Professional certifications in pertinent database or software platforms (Oracle, SAP, MSSQL) are advantageous.
• Demonstrated experience in remote database administration and designing both logical and physical database schemas.
• Familiarity with database backup, security practices, and recovery mechanisms.
• Hands-on experience with query performance tuning techniques.
• Proven success in handling complex database projects end-to-end.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills coupled with excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
• Proactive commitment to ongoing learning and staying current with technological advancements in database management.
• Advanced certifications or postgraduate qualifications in database administration or related fields are beneficial.
