Director of Software Engineering - Infrastructure Platforms

Join us in establishing a new engineering hub in Dublin by leading the creation and innovation of enterprise infrastructure platforms. This role invites an experienced leader to shape technical culture and influence software engineering standards while running a small, high-performing senior team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a compact group of senior engineers, cultivating an environment of ownership and high performance.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of enterprise infrastructure platforms from design through to delivery and operation.
• Remain actively involved in writing and reviewing production-level code to maintain top engineering standards.
• Implement advanced AI-driven engineering methodologies ensuring robust validation and correctness without sacrificing speed.
• Participate in on-call rotations, manage escalations, and build systems with strong operability and observability from inception.
• Optimize infrastructure systems with a focus on scalability, efficiency, reliability, and overall performance.
• Break down complex, ambiguous challenges into executable tasks suitable for both engineers and AI systems.
• Define direction and governance for AI-enabled software development and automation to enhance delivery workflows, testing, release readiness, and incident management, while enforcing security and compliance safeguards.
• Utilize expertise with software development lifecycle tools, including AI-assisted development technologies, to maximize automation benefits and increase team capacity.
• Set measurable outcomes for the team, track impact, and ensure accountability.
• Collaborate with infrastructure stakeholders to resolve technical conflicts and proactively identify risks.

Candidate Profile

• Extensive hands-on software engineering experience producing live code in languages such as Python, Go, Java, C++, or Rust.
• Proven background building and managing large-scale systems in infrastructure domains such as cloud, networking, storage, security, or data platforms.
• Track record running production environments including incident response and designing for reliability and maintainability.
• Leadership experience involving setting technical vision and mentoring engineering teams.
• Strong systems thinking capabilities encompassing interfaces, failure modes, contracts, and interactions at scale.
• Expertise in directing AI tools for substantive engineering work with prudent judgment on human versus machine roles.
• Security-conscious mindset, integrating risk assessment throughout design and production phases.
• Excellent communication skills to engage engineers, peers, and stakeholders effectively.
• Results-driven approach emphasizing impact, system reliability, and cost optimization.
• Aptitude for navigating uncertain and greenfield project environments.
• Inclusive leadership style capable of attracting and nurturing senior engineering talent.

• Comprehensive understanding of responsible AI usage, data sensitivity, secure practices, governance, and resiliency in engineering pipelines.
• Experience in heavily regulated or sizable enterprise environments.
• Background in greenfield development projects and engineering culture establishment.
