About the Role and Organisation
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) seeks a dedicated and compassionate Facilities Operative to join the Ward Catering team at Grange University Hospital, located in Cwmbrân, Wales. As a key part of patient care, this position focuses on serving meals and refreshments, maintaining high food hygiene standards, and supporting the ward environment to enhance patient well-being and recovery.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve appropriate meals and drinks to patients, ensuring individual dietary needs are met.
- Communicate effectively with patients and nursing staff to tailor dietary support.
- Keep patients hydrated by replenishing water supplies regularly.
- Maintain ward kitchen cleanliness and uphold stringent food hygiene standards.
- Clean and store kitchenware including crockery, cutlery, glassware, and equipment.
- Monitor food and refrigeration temperatures to comply with safety regulations.
- Verify meal deliveries for accuracy and sufficient stock.
- Manage catering stock through ordering, rotation, and proper storage.
- Conduct safety and quality checks related to catering and report any concerns promptly.
- Contribute to creating a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients and visitors.

Additional Information
- This is a fixed-term/secondment position for 22 months, ending March 2028. Applicants currently employed elsewhere must obtain managerial consent before applying.
- The role requires availability for shifts between 07:00 and 19:30, covering one to three sessions weekly, including weekends and bank holidays.
- Welsh language skills are advantageous but not mandatory; applications in Welsh or English are equally accepted.

- The position is subject to the NHS Agenda for Change pay award effective August 2026, with backdated adjustments.

Education, Qualifications, and Experience
- Basic general education with literacy and numeracy skills.
- Willingness to complete the ABUHB Facilities Competency Workbook within six months.
- Completion of statutory and mandatory courses including Basic Food Hygiene certificate is required.
- Prior experience in healthcare, hospitality, catering, or customer service is beneficial but not essential due to provided training.
- BIFM or NVQ Level 2 qualifications in a related field are desirable.
