Junior AI Developer

Overview

As a Junior AI Developer at reeeliance based in Hamburg, Germany, you will craft and uphold Python-based backend services that embed large language models (LLMs), vector databases, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines into our existing software ecosystems. Collaborating closely with senior engineers, you'll help deliver production-level AI solutions ensuring code is clean, secure, and well-documented.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop robust backend systems primarily in Python to integrate LLMs, vector databases, and AI modules into current application landscapes.
• Write maintainable, secure, and well-structured code adhering to code quality standards and architectural principles.
• Work alongside senior engineers to expand the Internal Developer Platform and leverage terraform for infrastructure self-service.
• Design, test, and optimize prompts for various language models to achieve consistent and high-quality outputs for business applications.
• Implement RAG pipelines including document chunking, embedding generation, and vector search techniques.
• Evaluate and monitor AI model performance in line with established AI evaluation and testing standards.
• Create and train machine learning models and perform data analysis to support corporate management decisions.
• Document technical decisions, API endpoints, and system architectures clearly and comprehensively.
• Participate actively in code reviews, embracing feedback to foster continuous learning and improvement.
• Collaborate with data engineers, stakeholders, and project managers to pinpoint business needs and develop effective AI solutions.
• Prepare and clean extensive datasets for training and fine-tuning models.
• Stay informed about the latest AI technologies, tools, and industry trends to keep projects innovative.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience in AI engineering, data science, or machine learning with a preference for data engineering knowledge.
• Proficient in Python programming with understanding of software design patterns, OOP, and functional programming concepts.
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git), continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD) processes, and RESTful API development frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or plumber.
• Basic knowledge of the generative AI technology stack including LLMs, vector databases, and frameworks like LangChain.
• Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Hands-on experience deploying AI applications with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of SQL and NoSQL database systems.
• Familiar with data engineering concepts such as data lakes and ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Knowledge of no-code and automation platforms including Make, n8n, and Airtable.
• Basic experience with machine learning frameworks and cloud AI platforms like Azure ML and Databricks.
• Proficiency with AI frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, and tools for building AI systems.
• Experience in building fundamental RAG applications or deploying open-source models locally.
• Knowledge of MLOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for AI workflows.
• Effective collaboration skills within cross-functional teams and client interactions.
• Highly inquisitive about recent AI research, open-source tools, and architectural methodologies, with a focus on understanding underlying principles rather than copying solutions.
• Commitment to producing production-ready AI solutions including writing tests, handling edge cases, managing errors responsibly, and considering security aspects like prompt injection attacks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in German (C1) and English (B2), accompanied by attentive listening.
