About the role
This role is for a NetApp-certified storage installation engineer who can plan, deploy, and support storage and backup technologies in enterprise environments. The position focuses on NetApp-based systems, including installation, configuration, upgrades, and high-availability setups, along with associated backup technology work.
The job is based in Bengaluru with field support responsibilities.
Key responsibilities
- Set up, configure, and upgrade NetApp storage platforms such as AFF, FAS, and E Series.
- Build and validate ONTAP environments, including Data ONTAP and SANtricity.
- Connect NetApp storage to SAN and NAS setups using iSCSI, FC, NFS, and CIFS/SMB.
- Carry out site assessments, rack and stack hardware, and complete validation and handover activities.
- Diagnose installation and configuration problems and work with NetApp support when required.
- Install and configure backup software such as Veeam and NetVault.
- Work with immutable backup storage and understand air-gap protection concepts.
- Prepare installation records, network diagrams, and configuration documentation.
- Install and configure SAN switches.
- Perform zoning, SAN switch interconnects, performance checks, troubleshooting, and firmware upgrades.
- Apply best practices for zoning, LUN provisioning, snapshot configuration, data protection, and SnapMirror-based replication.
- Coordinate with project managers and customers to achieve installation timelines and SLA commitments.
- Understand software-defined storage concepts.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of hands-on experience with NetApp storage installations.
- Strong working knowledge of ONTAP CLI and System Manager.
- Comfort with networking fundamentals, including Ethernet and FC SAN switches such as Cisco and Brocade.
- Experience using tools like Active IQ, Config Advisor, AutoSupport, and Unified Manager.
- NetApp integration knowledge with VMware is considered an added advantage.
- Strong communication and documentation abilities.
- Willingness to travel to customer remote sites if needed.
Preferred skills
- Experience with SnapMirror, SnapVault, FlexClone, DC-DR replication, and backup software ecosystems.
- Ability to use scripting languages such as Python and PowerShell for automation.
- Familiarity with backup solutions like Commvault, Veeam, NetBackup, and NetVault across NetApp and other OEM environments.
- Exposure to hybrid cloud storage platforms such as CVO and AWS FSx for ONTAP.
