Role Overview

We are seeking a Product Development Technologist to take the lead in developing new food products from initial idea through to commercial launch. This dynamic position requires managing multiple projects, collaborating across departments, and applying problem-solving skills to bring innovative concepts to life within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Occasional trips to our Head Office in Newmarket and sites in Christchurch and New Plymouth might be necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage product development initiatives from conception to successful market introduction.
• Convert product briefs into feasible and commercially viable solutions meeting customer, operational, and quality criteria.
• Support and inspire Sales, Marketing, and Operations teams by providing insights through market research, food trend analysis, innovation awareness, and knowledge of new technologies.
• Communicate detailed product requirements to ingredient suppliers aligning with Tegel’s strategies and market standards.
• Identify and implement opportunities to enhance product quality, improve production processes, and reduce costs effectively.
• Create and update product specifications, packaging details, and related documentation accurately.

Candidate Profile

• Holds a tertiary degree in Food Technology, Food Science, or a related field.
• Has a minimum of two years’ experience in New Product Development within the food manufacturing industry.
• Proven track record of managing end-to-end product development projects and coordinating factory trials with interdisciplinary teams.
• Sound knowledge of FSANZ Food Standards Code and good manufacturing practices.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, able to influence and maintain relationships without formal authority.
