About the Role
The Irish Cancer Society seeks a Research Support Coordinator for a fixed-term contract covering maternity leave. This full-time position (35 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm) operates under a hybrid working model, requiring on-site presence in the Dublin 4 office on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The salary for this role is €37,000 annually.
Organizational Vision
Committed to significantly improving cancer survival rates and patient care by 2025, the Irish Cancer Society funds a broad spectrum of cancer research, spanning translational and clinical studies focused on areas such as early detection, innovative therapies, clinical trials, prevention, patient well-being, and end-of-life care. This role is vital to supporting the delivery and communication of this ambitious research strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head of Research in managing daily activities within a busy research department.
- Coordinate external communications and media outputs for the research division.
- Organize various internal and external research events, workshops, and training sessions for diverse stakeholders.
- Oversee public and patient partnership initiatives and related funding opportunities within the research department.
- Manage departmental finances, including invoice processing and research grant payments.
- Support grant call development and post-award administrative processes.
- Administer public and patient involvement (PPI) activities and grants under the guidance of the Head of Research.
- Maintain departmental memberships, subscriptions, and comprehensive records of research outputs and metrics.
- Track information requests and prepare reports as needed.
- Provide regular updates on research activities to the Executive Leadership Team and Board.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR requirements for the research department.
- Lead coordination of monthly newsletters and collaborate on public promotional materials, including pamphlets, web content, email campaigns, and videos, in partnership with Communications and Branding teams.
- Serve as the research department’s representative on internal and external committees and handle incoming queries via phone, post, and email.
- Prepare and set up for conferences, webinars, workshops, and other research events including managing informational stands.
- Attend external research events and conferences to represent the department.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a comparable administrative role with strong organizational skills.
- Experience handling financial administration and budget management.
- Proficient with technology and computer applications such as databases, spreadsheets, word processing, email, internet, and electronic research management systems.
- Demonstrated event planning and coordination capabilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience generating reports.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience creating website content.
- Knowledge of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) effects on organizational communications.
