Role Overview
Reporting to the Team Lead of Software Engineering, the Software Engineer II is responsible for independently applying their expertise to design and develop sophisticated software solutions. This role involves resolving moderately complex challenges, delivering reliable outputs, and beginning to mentor junior colleagues, collaborating closely with multifunctional teams to create exceptional customer experiences.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Design complete moderately complex software modules or applications.
- Contribute to designing components within larger software systems, including defining user and system interfaces.
- Create diverse design perspectives addressing stakeholder interests, functional/non-functional requirements, and security concerns.
- Develop, verify, test, document, refine, and enhance moderately complex programs and scripts.
- Adhere to established development standards, tools, patterns, and security protocols for quality engineering.
- Track development progress, identify technical obstacles, and propose actionable remedies.
- Support release planning, scheduling, and coordination following prescribed processes with relevant teams.
- Engage in testing and quality assurance activities ensuring product meets standards.
- Document and communicate release results to stakeholders.
- Participate in peer reviews and contribute to decision-making on design options and trade-offs.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of four years relevant software engineering experience.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.
- Capability to work autonomously under general supervision, applying discretion in complex scenarios and managing deadlines efficiently.
- Strong interpersonal skills to cooperate with colleagues, interact with customers and partners, grasp user requirements, and contribute to team goals.
- Ability to execute varied complex tasks systematically, troubleshoot effectively, and foster innovative solutions.
- Proficient communication abilities paired with digital literacy and appropriate methodological application.
- Self-driven learner committed to security, privacy, and ethical standards.
- Broad industry insight and comprehension of the business environment.
- Skill in transferring knowledge effectively and quickly assimilating new information.
Additional Details
The role is primarily office-based, requiring presence in the Christchurch office a minimum of three days per week. Occasional Tier 3 after-hours support duties might arise.
