Job Overview
The Specialist - Project Control plays a critical role in preparing Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimates and monitoring project expenditures compared to approved budgets. This position requires the ability to coordinate multiple projects and prioritize tasks efficiently to ensure timely delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates and pricing affecting TIC, including calculating contingency allowances.
- Develop estimates aligned with the work breakdown structure (WBS) and cost coding standards.
- Document the basis of estimates, clarifying scope of work, equipment pricing, and material take-offs (MTOs).
- Lead estimate review sessions to verify comprehensive project scope inclusion.
- Maintain and control approved estimates along with supporting documentation for project archiving.
- Advise project teams on required documentation formats for different phase gates.
- Evaluate variances between actual costs and schedules against plans, communicate findings, and recommend corrective actions to management.
- Implement and control work breakdown and project coding structures as per contract definitions to uphold work integrity.
- Collaborate with teams to establish credit rules and deliver precise progress measurements for engineering and construction phases.
- Compare estimated costs with actuals and revise rates for future project estimates accordingly.
- Supply reliable historical cost data and maintain a database reflecting program cost experiences.
- Support project engineers in estimating scope changes and enforce change management protocols.
- Participate in weekly project meetings contributing insights on cost and schedule performance.
- Communicate budget status including forecasts, overruns, contingency usage, and concerns to the project team and management.
- Assist in the financial closeout process of projects.
- Enter lessons learned into the program database to support ongoing improvements.
- Adhere strictly to environmental, health, safety, and quality policies to ensure compliance and maintain high standards.
- Fulfill accountabilities outlined in the operational excellence schedule of responsibilities.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives within the assigned area.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent Project Engineering.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in project control or a similar function.
