Storage and Backup Expert

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Storage and Backup Expert to manage, support, and maintain advanced enterprise storage and data protection systems. This position ensures optimal availability, performance, security, and recoverability of essential business systems. The focus lies on daily maintenance, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and lifecycle management across diverse storage and backup technologies from multiple vendors.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and support a variety of enterprise storage platforms including DELL Storage systems such as VMAX, PowerMax, Unity, NAS, and Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS).
• Manage and provide support for IBM Flash Storage, IBM Elastic Storage System (ESS), Pure Storage, and Huawei OceanStor infrastructures.
• Handle storage provisioning tasks, including zoning, masking, capacity planning, and performance monitoring.
• Continuously monitor storage system health, proactively addressing issues related to performance, availability, and capacity to meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Perform storage system migrations, upgrades, firmware updates, and patch implementations.
• Support replication, snapshot management, and disaster recovery operations following established procedures.
• Oversee enterprise backup solutions utilizing DELL EMC NetWorker, PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM), and Data Domain.
• Manage backup operations, including scheduling, retention policies, compliance adherence, failure troubleshooting, and ensuring completion within designated backup windows.
• Execute restore requests, conduct recovery testing, and assist with disaster recovery support activities.
• Ensure backup and restore processes meet defined Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) targets.
• Serve as a senior escalation contact for storage and backup issues, including incidents, problems, and service requests.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement measures to prevent recurrence of incidents.
• Maintain comprehensive operational documentation, including runbooks and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Participate in on-call rotation supporting 24x7 production environments as needed.
• Liaise with vendors for technical support coordination and issue resolution.
• Collaborate effectively with UNIX/Linux, Windows, VMware, Cloud, and Application teams for storage and backup-related activities.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members.
• Maintain clear communication with stakeholders regarding operational status, incident reports, and risk assessments.
• Identify operational risks proactively, escalate them appropriately, and track them through to resolution.

Candidate Profile

• Demonstrable hands-on experience supporting DELL Storage platforms (VMAX, PowerMax, Unity, NAS, ECS), IBM Flash Storage, IBM ESS, Pure Storage, and Huawei OceanStor.
• Proficiency with enterprise backup platforms including DELL EMC NetWorker, PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM), and Data Domain.
• Deep understanding of storage networking protocols such as SAN/NAS, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and multipathing.
• Experience supporting storage environments for VMware, UNIX/Linux, and database platforms.
• Knowledge of replication methods, snapshot management, and disaster recovery operations.
• Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• At least 8 years of proven experience in enterprise storage and backup administration.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities paired with effective stakeholder management skills.
• Capability to operate independently and manage high-pressure production challenges.
• A proactive, detail-focused work style with a strong sense of ownership.
