Job description

Role Overview

As the Director of Engineering - Application Security, you will blend extensive technical knowledge with a commitment to cultivating high-performing teams. Operating within an agile, cloud-centric environment, you will set the bar for technical standards, shape strategic directions, and deliver enterprise-grade application security solutions that safeguard the organization. Your leadership will include mentoring engineers and analysts to create secure, scalable architectures that encourage innovation while ensuring client safety. This position offers a unique chance to influence the future landscape of secure engineering at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead the team’s strategic vision, roadmap, and objectives.
  • Guide the professional and technical development of engineers and analysts.
  • Manage workforce planning and align performance goals with business strategies.
  • Organize and coordinate multiple projects with excellent planning skills.
  • Define and take ownership of the roadmap, including outlining key milestones to fulfill the vision.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to secure customer-centric outcomes.
  • Promote adoption of Secure-SDLC practices such as secrets management, SAST, SCA, and DAST when applicable.
  • Enhance automation, testing coverage, deployment speed, and system reliability.
  • Establish and enforce technical standards, conduct code reviews, and provide architectural guidance.
  • Collaborate with leadership across engineering, business, and operations to align security priorities.
  • Lead decision-making on trade-offs, resource capacity, and risk using data-driven insights.
  • Communicate updates, challenges, and results clearly to peers and executive leadership.
  • Monitor emerging security threats, tools, and frameworks to stay ahead of trends.
  • Cultivate a culture focused on continuous improvement through metrics analysis, retrospectives, and ongoing education.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 12 years in IT with at least 5 years in technical and people leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering scalable, cloud-native software incorporated with Secure-SDLC methodologies.
  • Strong expertise in systems architecture, SDLC, Agile frameworks, AWS platforms, and DevSecOps practices.
  • A data-driven approach for strategic decision-making utilizing analytics and performance metrics.
  • Exceptional communication and influence skills; capable in stakeholder engagement and cross-functional teamwork.
  • Passionate about mentoring to enhance skills across all team levels.
  • Hands-on experience in setting and executing strategic vision and roadmaps.
  • Knowledge of application security tools such as secrets scanning, SAST, DAST, and SCA is advantageous.
