Position Overview

The Traffic Control Flagger is responsible for managing the safe movement of vehicles around construction zones, road maintenance sites, and other work areas. This role involves the setup and removal of traffic safety devices such as signs, cones, and barricades to safeguard workers and the public. The flagger communicates with motorists using hand signals and traffic control devices to direct traffic flow effectively. Candidates must be attentive, able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and capable of standing for long durations.

Key Responsibilities

• Install and dismantle signs, cones, and traffic control devices to redirect traffic safely around work zones.
• Control vehicle flow using stop/slow paddles with precision.
• Maintain effective team communication via two-way radios.
• Stand, walk, and extend arms and hands for up to ten hours daily.
• Lift and maneuver items exceeding 50 pounds as necessary.
• Operate company vehicles to transport equipment and perform routine inspections and maintenance.
• Regularly work outdoors, exposed to varying weather, moving machinery, traffic, and environmental noise ranging from moderate to loud.
• Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
• Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Successful completion of background checks, including driving record verification.
• Passing results in drug testing and adherence to federal Department of Transportation regulations.
• Proper use of safety gear including work boots with safety toes, hard hat, safety glasses, and vest.
• Competence in operating two-way radios.
• Flexibility to work in diverse weather conditions and traffic environments.
• Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with contractors and internal teams, providing excellent customer service.
• Ability to collaborate in a team setting.
• Consistent attendance, dependable transportation, and a dedicated work ethic.
• Completion of the ATSSA Flagger training and the company-required Defensive Driver course.
• Availability for statewide travel, including occasional overnight stays, with the ability to work nights and weekends as project needs dictate.
• Participation in a rotating on-call schedule.
