Role Overview

The position of Carbon Project Developer is based in Uganda and involves close collaboration with the carbon leadership team in Kenya. The role centers on coordinating the development and implementation of carbon projects countrywide, facilitating stakeholder engagement, managing verification processes, and overseeing operational activities to ensure successful carbon program execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate all carbon project development initiatives within Uganda.
• Manage logistics for fieldwork including data gathering, monitoring efforts, and handling grievance redress mechanisms.
• Facilitate the transition of AMS I.B carbon projects from Gold Standard to PACM methodologies, ensuring alignment with environmental compliance and regulation.
• Organize workshops, stakeholder meetings, and events related to carbon projects in-country.
• Collaborate closely with Kenyan counterparts to assist in project validation, verification, and monitoring processes.
• Contribute to the creation of project plans, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Support carbon accounting and stay informed on emerging carbon methodologies.
• Conduct local stakeholder consultations and promote community engagement.
• Administer the national-level grievance redress system linked to carbon programs.
• Coordinate daily carbon program operations in partnership with the Carbon Operations Lead.
• Develop and maintain monitoring frameworks and produce regular progress reports for stakeholders.
• Engage in carbon committee meetings as well as multidisciplinary project coordination sessions.
• Accept additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Climate Change, Natural Resource Management, or related discipline.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in project management focused on carbon projects, climate finance, sustainability programs, or environmental initiatives.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Voluntary Carbon Markets and the carbon project development lifecycle.
• Proficiency with carbon accounting methodologies, project validation, verification, and applicable environmental laws.
• Strong abilities in organization, communication, and managing relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrated capacity to coordinate cross-functional teams and operate effectively in dynamic settings.
• Experience managing budgets, timelines, and preparing reports for projects.
