About the Role and Company
Novacom Building Partners is expanding its presence by opening a new office in Calgary to capitalize on national client connections. We are seeking a Project Manager to spearhead growth in this market, taking on leadership responsibilities within the local team and cultivating key client relationships. Novacom is a leading General Contractor and Construction Manager based in Vancouver, specializing in high-end tenant improvements and new constructions across sectors such as Financial, Corporate Office, Education, Childcare, Restaurant, and Government. Key Responsibilities
- Proactively build and maintain new and existing client relationships in the Calgary area, collaborating with company leadership to expand market presence.
- Lead and manage the internal project team including Site Superintendents and Project Coordinators to ensure alignment towards project goals.
- Oversee project initiation tasks such as issuing contracts, obtaining insurance, bonds, and Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) notices.
- Manage project documentation using platforms like Procore, overseeing labour, materials, equipment, cost coding, submittals, schedules, meeting minutes, and change orders.
- Supervise construction subtrades and suppliers, proactively addressing and resolving any challenges during projects.
- Collaborate closely with Site Superintendents to ensure high-quality project delivery while adhering to schedules and budgets.
- Interface with architects, consultants, and clients to address project-related issues and maintain positive working relationships.
- Continuously monitor and manage project budgets, utilizing creative cost-saving measures and providing regular financial reports to management.
- Prepare and manage monthly progress invoicing and approve subtrade and supplier invoices accurately.
Required Qualifications and Attributes
- Between 5 to 10 years of experience in commercial construction, preferably as a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager.
- Strong understanding of construction processes and sequencing.
- Post-secondary or technical education in construction or a related industry program (e.g., BCIT or equivalent).
- Excellent relationship-building skills, with an emphasis on client, consultant, trade, and teammate engagement.
- Natural leadership abilities, capable of motivating teams toward shared objectives.
- Problem-solving mindset, viewing challenges as opportunities to innovate and improve.
- Self-motivated and proactive attitude with the ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
- Energetic and enthusiastic approach to managing complex tasks.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on proactive and clear interaction.
- Detail-oriented and process-driven, proficient in tracking schedules, change orders, reports, and documentation.
- Financially savvy, with a commitment to managing budgets meticulously.
- Flexibility to travel within Alberta for site visits, client meetings, and project inspections.
