Data Analyst (Transit)

Overview

The City of Guelph is seeking a dedicated Data Analyst to join the Guelph Transit department. This full-time, permanent role is located at 170 Watson Road S, Guelph, with a hybrid work arrangement. The position plays a vital role in supporting transit operations by analyzing data to guide business decisions aligned with the city's strategic objectives of fostering an inclusive, connected, and prosperous community.

Responsibilities

• Manage and improve transit performance dashboards and reporting tools.
• Extract, transform, and analyze data from diverse transit and enterprise systems, including scheduling, fare collection, operations, ERP, AVL, APC, and GIS platforms.
• Provide ad hoc reports and analyses to inform operational monitoring and strategic planning.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather business requirements and develop sustainable analytical solutions.
• Create, test, deploy, and maintain data solutions based on organizational needs.
• Work alongside technical and business units to identify data requirements, resolve issues, and maintain data reliability.
• Support software upgrades and deployments following change management policies.
• Stay informed of emerging data technologies and industry best practices.
• Perform other related tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Relevant diploma or degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Extensive experience in medium to large organizational settings managing enterprise data warehouses and business intelligence platforms.
• Advanced expertise in Power BI for dashboard creation, data modeling, and report distribution.
• Proven ability to integrate data across multiple enterprise systems such as scheduling, fare, asset management, ERP, and GIS.
• Competency in scripting for automating data retrieval processes.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with staff, stakeholders, and the public.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team while handling multiple priorities.

Working Hours and Conditions

This position requires a 35-hour work week, typically from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with some flexibility to attend meetings or events. Hybrid and flexible working options are available in line with current policies.

• Annual salary range between $77,548 and $96,935.
