About the Role
Serán BioScience is looking for an Engineering Project Manager to oversee and guide various capital projects from inception through completion. These assignments include a range of activities such as renovations, installation of sophisticated equipment, and new construction. The successful candidate will be accountable for all project facets: formulating and overseeing project controls, providing updates to stakeholders, managing diverse design teams, and supervising contractors. Ideal applicants will be strong delegators, skilled at prioritizing critical components, and adept at solving problems collaboratively. Candidates with over five years of project management experience, especially within the pharmaceutical sector, will be preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and nurture relationships with contractors, design consultants, and firms including reviewing proposals, awarding contracts, and resource allocation.
- Oversee contractors and subcontractors to maintain high standards of safety and quality.
- Provide leadership by coordinating with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors throughout project phases.
- Create detailed job descriptions and material requirements for project completion.
- Plan and schedule projects logically, ensuring resources are assigned to meet milestones.
- Prepare budget estimates, communicate progress and costs to stakeholders, and control expenditures.
- Adapt quickly to unforeseen challenges, making necessary budget or process adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and construction codes on-site.
- Negotiate and manage contracts, ensuring all parties adhere to agreements.
- Maintain construction and documentation standards in line with contracts and engineering best practices.
- Resolve issues related to work procedures, complaints, or design through collaboration with all parties involved.
- Lead responsive actions for construction delays, weather problems, or emergency situations.
- Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with various stakeholders including owners, supervisors, and tradespeople.
- Assume increasing responsibilities aligned with company initiatives as assigned.
- Perform other duties related to the role as necessary.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Familiarity with cGMPs and global regulatory frameworks (FDA, MHRA, EMEA) through education and experience.
- Extensive understanding of facility systems such as HVAC, compressed gases, water systems including purified water and steam, electrical, automation controls, and monitoring.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical facility design aspects such as process flows, controlled zones, structural components, and finishes.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Comprehension of contracts, construction plans, specifications, and industry regulations.
- Expertise in developing and managing project controls.
- Ability to maintain flexibility and efficiency in dynamic work environments.
- Track record of effective teamwork and collaboration across functions.
- Capability to accept feedback from multiple sources and resolve conflicts constructively.
- Skill in making prompt, informed decisions under pressure and handling unexpected delays.
- Proficiency in multitasking while analyzing and resolving issues efficiently.
- Deep understanding of engineering, architectural, and construction drawings.
- Competence in assessing and mitigating risks.
- Leadership qualities reflecting decisiveness and team guidance.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills in meetings.
- Proficient with MS Office applications including MS Project, and familiarity with tools like BlueBeam and CMMS.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Science, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline is required.
- Preferred certifications include Construction Manager (American Institute of Constructors or Construction Management Association of America), EIT, PMP, LEED AP, CFM, or PE.
- A minimum of five years' experience managing projects within the construction industry is mandatory.
- Experience within the pharmaceutical industry is advantageous.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to access and inspect all areas of construction sites in diverse weather conditions, involving walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds as required.
- May require travel to job sites.
- Consistent in-person attendance with predictable presence.
- Exposure to typical construction site hazards.
- Availability on-call to manage delays, emergencies, or adverse weather situations.
