Role Overview

As a Facility Manager overseeing a regional portfolio of veterinary hospitals, you will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, compliant, and cost-effective operations of multiple hospital facilities. Your work helps clinical teams focus on care quality by maintaining reliable and functional environments while managing operational expenses prudently.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead daily facility management for multiple veterinary hospitals within a region, guaranteeing safety, operability, and adherence to compliance standards.
• Coordinate and supervise preventive maintenance and repair work to minimize disruptions to clinical services.
• Act as the main liaison with Hospital Managers and Regional Leadership to interpret operational and clinical requirements into actionable facility plans.
• Oversee relationships with third-party contractors including vendor selection, contract negotiation, performance management, and quality assurance.
• Implement cost reduction strategies through vendor consolidation, preventive maintenance refinements, and efficient repair procedures.
• Apply foundational knowledge of MEP systems—HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing, and safety systems—to diagnose problems and validate repair proposals for quality and cost-effectiveness.
• Manage landlord-related building repairs and oversee lease compliance as appropriate.
• Support initiatives such as capital projects, facility refreshes, and upgrades by managing scope, contractor coordination, scheduling, and project completion.
• Conduct regular evaluations of sites to detect deferred maintenance issues, safety hazards, and operational inefficiencies; assist in budget planning and forecasting.
• Ensure compliance with industry health, safety, and veterinary-specific regulatory guidelines.
• Maintain detailed records and reporting on maintenance activities, vendor performance, expenses, and facility conditions to facilitate decision-making.
• Collaborate with Corporate Facilities to adopt standardized processes and best practices to improve facility operations across the portfolio.
• Assist in managing annual maintenance budgets and verify vendor invoicing accuracy.

Work Environment and Expectations

• This regional role involves supporting several veterinary hospital locations within a designated territory.
• Travel up to 20% of the time will be required.
• Work involves presence in animal care settings, including treatment spaces and kennels.
• Occasional evening or weekend hours may be necessary for urgent facility needs or projects.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum qualification: High school diploma or GED; bachelor's degree preferred in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• At least seven years of facilities management experience, with three or more years managing multiple sites.
• Prior experience in veterinary, healthcare, or laboratory settings is highly advantageous.
• Strong communication, organizational, and leadership abilities.
• Sound working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems management.
• Understanding of infection control, sanitation, and biosecurity specific to animal care environments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and facility maintenance software.
• Valid driver's license with ability to travel within region.
• Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds and perform light physical maintenance when necessary.

Compensation

The salary range offered for this role is $75,000 to $90,000 annually.
