Role Overview
Our Communications Department is currently seeking a committed Graphic Designer to enhance our team. This role functions as the key internal and external resource for graphic design and print projects, ensuring uniformity and professionalism in all visual communications that uphold the City’s brand.
Key Responsibilities
- Create visual communication materials for print and digital platforms.
- Manage, coordinate, and advise on design projects, from conception to final output.
- Contribute to various departmental initiatives and projects.
- Train and support staff in technical aspects, brand standards, and visual communication techniques.
- Handle multiple design projects simultaneously, adapting to shifting priorities.
- Revise designs and documents based on client feedback and branding guidelines.
- Act as a liaison between City departments and external design vendors or contractors.
- Enforce quality control measures to maintain the City brand integrity.
- Conduct research and prepare reports on assigned subjects.
- Collaborate with team members to meet project objectives.
- Provide technical assistance to staff for online design tools and resources.
- Promote understanding and adherence to policies, guidelines, and regulations related to visual communications.
- Develop training materials in various formats.
Qualifications and Skills
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in graphic design, visual communications, or related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Minimum four years of recent experience as a graphic designer, including at least two years in a professional setting.
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office, particularly Word and PowerPoint.
- High computer literacy and proficiency in digital illustration.
- Effective client management skills with the ability to set and manage expectations tactfully.
- Experience in project management and facilitating meetings.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Independence with excellent time management and organizational skills.
- In-depth understanding of the design process, timeline, and cost factors.
- Ability to work well within a team, strong interpersonal skills.
- Research and problem-solving abilities.
- Sharp eye for quality design and appropriate typography.
- Knowledge of Canadian copyright laws and restrictions.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and website development processes.
- Understanding of photography and videography concepts and equipment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Adaptability to quickly learn new technologies and independently devise solutions.
Working Hours
The regular workweek averages 35 hours, with the schedule set by the supervising manager.
Compensation and Benefits
The pay range is from $37.02 to $47.86 per hour, governed by the Out-of-Scope Agreement. A comprehensive benefits package is available.
